A walk to Morton Loch Nature Reserve
The Morton Lochs on the western edge of the forest are part of Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve and there are four hides where you can watch waterbirds and dragonflies. The dunes and sand flats at Tentsmuir Point and Tayport Heath are all part of the reserve too. People have lived, hunted and worked here for thousands of years. Tools and a fire pit from a Stone Age hunters’ camp have been found near Morton Lochs. Its a really lovely walk but you'll need reasonable fitness to make it all the way and back. Everyone should take care along the waterfront but particularly with kids! Stick to established paths and be aware The Tay has a strong and Fast Tide. Don't venture out onto sand banks! The map guides you all the way to Morton Loch but there are shorter routes. |
A Walk up to the Tentsmuir Nature Reserve
We've suggested a lovely path to get there. If you're lucky you may see red squirrels in the trees, and roe deer weaving through the undergrowth. You might even see seals basking on the sand! But remember, if you do spot seals, keep your distance so you don't disturb them. The Reserve has lots of paths to follow and is a beautiful wild space. You can go as little or far as you like. Dunes, beaches and forests abundant in birds, insects and wildlife make for an ideal place to get away from it all. Everyone should take care along the waterfront but particularly with kids! Stick to established paths and be aware The Tay has a strong and Fast Tide. Don't venture out onto sand banks! The map guides you to the start of the nature reserve but you can do as little or as much as you feel able to. |
The Harbour Cafe
Located just next to the harbour this a great wee cafe serving the community. In their own words: 'From our menu we have hot breakfast rolls, waffles, hearty toasties and sandwiches, pancake stacks, fresh salads and lots more. We also cater for vegans, gluten free and dairy free. If you are looking for something sweet all of our cakes are baked in the cafe or by our lovely volunteer home bakers. Our scones are freshly baked everyday. You can take away too and if you want something for a special occasion or just to treat yourself we can take orders. We also give the opportunity for local artists to display on our walls. Now and again we have pop up shops too, to support local crafters and artists. Which are always a great success and gives us the opportunity to support our local artists.' The Harbour Cafe Menu |
